We love this use of the Lakes range, it brings out their stronger elements. Val teaches hand appliqué in British Columbia/Alberta [Canada]: “I made this for a presentation on the work of the Tentmakers of Cairo. I spent a lot of time in the Middle East and took a class with Jenny Bowker and am fascinated by the work. The pattern is by Ahmed Atef Fattoh / Hany Fattoh Shop from the book The Ancient Art of Appliqué – patterns from the tentmakers of Cairo, published by AQS. The tentmakers have given patterns to the book and share the royalties, so hopefully promoting the book helps a little as tourism in Egypt has taken a hit. Oakshott appliques beautifully so I sell it to my appliqué groups. I wanted to showcase Lakes and this was a perfect project as the tentmakers use solid colours. I haven’t quilted it yet as I can’t decide what I want to do with it.” [caption id="attachment_40" align="aligncenter" width="432"]A Tentmakers of Cairo pattern A Tentmakers of Cairo pattern[/caption] If anybody has any ideas on what to do next share them with us here or with Val on dwojtula@shaw.ca
