"I really love using Oakshott - the colours are so beautiful and I find the way the fabrics catch the light fascinating."
Catherine Chisholm has now finished her creation with Oakshott Ruby Reds in time to enter in the appliqué section of the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  She's shared the whole making process on her Knotted Cotton blog (complete with details about threads and binding). • Sharing colour since 2010

    May 25, 2014

We first met Fiona across a crowded exhibition aisle in February 2010 and have been having fun with her approach to sewing ever since! Fiona Pullen runs the online sewing directory as a central UK online platform for sewing businesses to promote themselves and as a one stop site for people who love sewing so they can find details of suppliers, sewing workshops, free projects, sewing techniques, industry news, competitions, events etc. She gets 60-70,000 visitors a month so she gets plenty of offers to contribute content, particularly if it involves  free fabric Emoji since they get to keep and enjoy what they make. For instance there's a husband  wearing this tie to work now and loving it. sewing-directoryTie-sharable It was designed by keen crafter Miriam Faulkner.  You can find Miriam blogging at moremiriam. Instructions are on the sewing directory site. This was one of two  projects The Sewing Directory ran as a fabric challenge with Oakshott. Fiona shared the details of the fabrics on her site and invited people to submit ideas of what they would make with them.  She then chose her two favourite ideas and sent them the fabric to make up their items and write the tutorials (go to her original post here). The second project was a perfect little evening bag (instructions here) by Anna Wilson (you can find more projects from her on her blog www.awilson.co.uk or find her handmade products on Etsy. sewing-directoryEvening Bag Read more

(In German at bottom) [caption id="attachment_148" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Using Lakes and Tweed Using Lakes and Tweed[/caption] We had a chat with Nina about how she keeps up her inspiration for the amazing collection of quilts she magics up in beautiful Bavaria, the southern part of Germany, some 130 km north-east of Munich. It turns out she only started quilting in 2009:
since when I keep attending classes with Claudia Pfeil, the well known German quilt artist in Krefeld. My curiosity led me to the quilt festival in Houston, Texas, where I came to know the style of Sue Patten and Jamie Wallen. I never run out of new ideas. [caption id="attachment_146" align="aligncenter" width="150"]Ruby Reds and grey Ruby Reds and grey[/caption]   Three years ago the online-store 1001quiltstiche (quilt stitches) was added, and this is how I came to know and love the beautiful Oakshott fabrics. I sew quilts to decorate my stalls at fairs. Unfortunately there is not enough time to make more as I´m always excited about the stunning effect of these iridescent fabrics. [caption id="attachment_149" align="aligncenter" width="150"]At the fair At the fair[/caption] Under the name 1001quilt you can find my Longarm Quilt Service in Ratisbon (Regensburg). On my APQS Millennium I quilt tops as wide as 270 cm. There are no limits to quilting designs, depending on style and appearance of the quilt top and  according to my clients' preferences I choose an appropriate design. I work freehand and with stencils.
Our mouth watered at the range of quilts you can see in her colourful gallery. Thanks for sharing Nina and nice to meet your helpmate: [caption id="attachment_147" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Quilting cat Quilting cat[/caption] [expand title="1001quilt - Longarm Quilt Service, Nina Reingruber"] Unter dem Namen 1001quilt findet man meinen Longarm Quiltservice in Regensburg im schönen Bayern, ca. 130 km nordöstlich von München. • Pink Calluna Cami

Our mouths watered at the sight of Kerry's clothing adventures with our new Calluna Herringbone fabric. There's info and pics on lilysquilts.blogspot.co.uk and detailed making instructions on verykerryberry.blogspot [caption id="attachment_116" align="aligncenter" width="150"]Kerry Berry in Calluna Herringbone Kerry Berry in Calluna Herringbone[/caption]
The Calluna  Herringbone is what I would describe as a shirting weight.  Imagine a beautiful, quality men's shirt, from the sort of gentlemen's outfitters that sells brightly coloured socks and cashmere sweaters- that is the weight of Calluna.  It is light to medium weight, perfect for shirts and dresses.  It is soft and the weave produces a two tone effect with a light colour on one side and a darker version on the other so perfect for contrast details like the button plackets, collar stands, cuffs and pockets on this dress.
