Modern Grandmothers Flower Garden Applique Quilt by Geta Grama

Sew impressive - make your own version of this stunning quilt

Such was the response to our Instagram post featuring Anne Underhill's wonderful Hexagons Quilt that we asked Anne to share with us the designer's details. She tells us it's the work of Romanian quilter Geta Grama and is entitled Modern Grandmother's Flower Garden Applique Quilt.

Geta's original quilt

The pattern is available from Geta's online shop Geta's Quilting Studio and can be made in three sizes. The full size version finishes at 55” x 55” / 138 x 138 cm, with a 42" / 105 cm diameter flower sphere. Smaller versions have 20" and 15" flower spheres. Along with the standard instructions and templates, Geta offers helpful advice on choosing a colour palette and achieving the mosaic effect.

Detailed suggestions for quilting are also provided. Geta's version (above and below) is free motion machine quilted with a feather design on the flowers - you can find the free tutorial on her blog - but she says stippling is just 'perfect' for the flowers.

Our thanks again to Anne Underhill of our local Montpellier Quilters for allowing us to feature her quilt, which will be on display at our Open Event on 8 & 9 December (see Events for more). Anne tells us:

It was an excellent pattern with easy to follow instructions, very well thought out. It was a quick (2-3 days) project that I really enjoyed making.

We hope you'll have as much fun making the quilt as Anne did! Find the pattern at Geta's Quilting Studio.
