We're sorry but this product is temporarily unavailable. Our estimated shipping date is mid October.
From pink to blood-red and deep crimson, our Ruby Reds exude romance and passion. Sharing a red warp, they glint like their gemstone namesakes. They're as passionate and seductive as the culture of Spain, their inspiration.
100% mercerised shot cottons - each colourway combines a base colour warp with a complementary or contrasting weft thread. This produces the trademark ‘shot’ effect when colours appear to shimmer and ‘move’ depending on how the light falls. It lends extra depth and texture to your project.
With their shared warp, these shades work beautifully together - no need to worry about colour combining.
Use them for quilting, patchwork and general sewing.
Our fabrics are cut from a 54” / 137 cm bolt width - that’s up to 23% wider than 'standard'. This means that our cut lengths and pre-cut packs provide a surprising amount of fabric!
Because they’re cut from 54” / 137 cm wide bolts, our cuts are up to a third bigger than 'standard'.
Our pre-cuts come in Fat 8ths, Fat Quarter, Half Metre Block or 1 Metre packs. 5” Charm Squares are available for individual collections.
Caring for your shot cottons - before, during and after sewing
We use the best quality reactive dyes which provide the best fastness to light, rubbing and especially to washing. This however cannot be guaranteed and as many quilts are future heritage projects, we recommend dry cleaning.
Our fabrics are soft finished with steam after production and most quilters do not prewash them. If prewashing is preferred, then only by hand in clean water at 30C, please.
Our fabrics are pure finished ie they don’t contain binders / wax / starch etc. The handle will therefore change very little when the fabric is washed. They may however fray slightly more than ‘finished’ fabrics and to minimise this, we recommend overlocking cut edges prior to washing.
Do not machine wash and do not tumble dry. Dark and light colours should be washed separately. Avoid optical whiteners and chlorine based cleaning products. Gently towel dry and iron whilst damp. Allow for a shrinkage of 3-5%.

What are ‘shot’ cottons?
Each colourway is achieved by selecting a base colour warp and marrying it with a complementary or contrasting weft thread. This produces our trademark ‘shot’ effect, when the colour appears to shimmer and change depending on how the light falls. They appear to have depth and movement.
Many of our collections - Grayshott, Lakes, Lipari, Ruby Reds, Scandinavia and Sorbet - combine a single warp shade with a rainbow of weft threads. This ensures that the colours mix, match and tone happily together and it makes for easy colour combining.

How can I compare the shades of one colour, across all the collections?
Our 'filter by colour' facility makes this easy.
- Click 'Shop' in the top bar.
- Click the downward arrow beside 'Colour' and check the colour of your choice. Here we filtered on Green to find the Greens from all our collections.
The long tentacles of COVID-19 have impacted our previously dependable shipping arrangements. Many post and airmail services beyond the UK are no longer reliable and in order to maintain our high levels of service, we have been obliged to restructure our delivery arrangements.
UK, Germany and Switzerland
- Standard post and airmail services continue, with a new optional upgrade to DHL's courier service.
All other destinations
- Post and airmail services are temporarily suspended. In their place we offer fully tracked and signed courier delivery via DHL or FedEx, depending on the location.
Both DHL and FedEx allow full end-to-end tracking of orders via their customer apps. They also allow you to re-arrange the delivery address and timing for your own convenience.
We appreciate that the courier services will cost a little more than the regular postal service, however we believe they will provide confidence and reliability of supply.
Order processing: we aim to despatch your order within 1-2 working days of receipt. After leaving our warehouse, your delivery should normally arrive in the number of days shown below. Please understand however that these timings are beyond our control, particularly during times of Coronavirus.
Please also note:
- Out of area surcharges may apply depending on the destination.
- Orders shipped to Guernsey, Jersey and Isle of Man must be addressed as such, in order to remain VAT exempt i.e. if the ‘country’ is entered as UK, VAT will automatically be applied.
- Please be sure to provide a daytime delivery address (not a PO box) where someone will be able to accept the goods. A contact phone number is also needed.
- Your order may be subject to import duties and taxes which are incurred once a shipment reaches your destination country. Oakshott Fabrics is not responsible for these charges if they are applied and are your responsibility as the customer.
If we’re not able to supply all the items from stock, we will notify you and may offer an alternative. We only ship part-orders with your express agreement. There are no delivery charges on Gift Vouchers and Downloadable Patterns.
