Oakshott at QuiltCon 2020

Meet the Brits at QuiltCon

Morris Textiles  Leisa Morris, Morris Textiles

If you're lucky enough to be heading to QuiltCon, then the number to know is 309 - booth #309 to be precise. For three very good reasons...

Booth #309 is the home of Morris Textiles, a retailer based in Austin and specialising in fabrics, patterns and notions with a distinctly British accent. Originally from Liverpool but now very settled in Austin, Leisa - the owner - describes herself as a fabric-obsessed Englishwoman living in Texas.

I have a passion for traditional British Design like William Morris and Liberty of London, but I also love to mix these classics with modern fabrics and designs to make something totally new.

Leisa discovered that our Oakshotts are the perfect complement to her Liberty and William Morris fabrics. It was the depth of colour and the handle that particularly captivated her, convincing her that she needed to offer a selection of our Colour Picks and Collections alongside her William Morris and Liberty cottons.

A second reason to visit Booth #309 is to meet the lovely Sarah Ashford @sarahashfordstudio. Sarah has seemingly boundless energy and enthusiasm and is wonderfully supportive of groups and individuals across the quilting community. When she's not designing, quilting and teaching, she runs the #greatbritishquilter Instagram challenge, hosts the Great British Quilter Podcast and contributes to magazines and publications amongst a legion of other activities.

Sarah generously helps and designs projects for smaller British companies like ourselves, for which we're enormously grateful. Look out for Sarah's brand new Sweet Heart Pillow and her Sweet Heart of Mine baby quilt - two contrasting takes on a single design concept.

The third Brit who you'll meet at Booth #309 is quilt and embroidery designer / maker Jo Avery @joaverystitch. A longstanding friend, Jo is a highly respected teacher who inspires with her colourful designs, amazing energy and love for her craft. Also widely published, Jo organises the #stitchgathering and co-hosts @threadhouseuk amongst a mind-boggling array of other commitments.

NEW for QuiltCon is Jo's vibrant Medallion Quarter Quilt, made using her own pick of our Oakshotts. By definition, it's probably the ultimate in 'scalable projects'!

It came as no surprise to learn that these three delightful ladies will be supporting one another. We cannot imagine any booth where you'll get a warmer welcome, bigger smiles and more fun. So drop by booth #309 and mention we sent you.
