Krista Hennebury @poppyprint will be teaching two workshops and presenting a lecture at this year's Festival of Quilts. Under her expert guidance, you'll pick up loads of tips while gaining confidence in new techniques that will inform your pursuit of your own original style.
Courthouse Colourplay: 1 day workshop. Explore the possibilities of colour expression and free cutting while you create Krista's wonky, nested Courthouse Step quilt in your own personal colour story. You'll create a dynamic quilt with loads of personality. There will be no squaring up – instead Krista will show you how to 'build out', finding the fit between adjacent blocks and using up your scraps in the process.
Speed Date with Improv: 1 day workshop. Improvisational piecing techniques including curves and free-cutting. This workshop is fast-paced and super fun: techniques are introduced, demonstrated and practiced in succession with very little time to second guess, stress or obsess over perfection. The focus is on exploring line, shape and happenstance in abstract design. Later, you'll jigsaw all the improv elements together, seeking balance and creative design opportunities. You'll leave with improv units to piece together at home into your own wall hanging - a unique, original quilt!
Poppy Print: The Search for Signature Style. In this lecture Krista shares her strategies for finding your own unique quilting voice in the face of constant exposure to inspiring work by others in social and print media. You’ll see real life examples of creative actions you can take to explore ideas along the road to creating original work.
Krista's workshops offer the perfect opportunity to put your traditional quilting skills to work and explore improvisational design and piecing in a fun, supportive environment.
