Fifty Shades of Green by Ingrid Huber
Fifty Shades of Green by Ingrid Huber
The title of the quilt is “Fifty Shades of Green” as I used almost exactly 50 different green shades in this quilt. How could I choose another one?

Sorbet on Blue Quilt by Maria Dlugosch
Sorbet on Blue Quilt
On a roll having completed her Half Triangle Rectangle Quilt, Maria set out to use up her Sorbet scraps. In Sorbet on Blue, the Sorbet clusters appear almost to 'melt' into one another... living up to their name, perhaps.
Maria's use of colour and quilting are unerringly striking, leaving you hungry for more. Go to her page and follow her @maria-dlugosch.
Half Rectangle Triangle Quilt by Maria Dlugosch
Half Rectangle Triangle Quilt
We all have our go-to palettes - shades we feel relaxed and confident with. But sometimes it's fun to explore beyond our comfort zone.
Maria Dlugosch did just that. Starting with a bundle of Sorbet, she added Alpine - both paler than she would normally choose. Forced to recalibrate her thoughts, she then dug into her stash for some deeper contrasts.
The result: her gorgeous Half Rectangle Triangle quilt.
Her delightful mix of colors just drew me in, says @aquilterstable.
Maria's attention to detail and her longarm skills add so much interest to the finished quilt that it's hard to take your eyes off it.
I like the result very much now, admits Maria with characteristic understatement.

Advice for Quilter by Ingrid Huber
Advice for Quilter
Size: 280 cm x 230 cm
It was on a visit to Pennsylvania, US that Ingrid Huber's eye was caught by artefacts for sale offering Advice from Nature in the form of poems.
Ingrid explains...
Funny but also thoughtful advice was offered by animals, plants, landscape... whatever you can think of. I liked them a lot.
On the next leg of the trip, to IQS Houston, Ingrid's imagination was fired and a plan began to crystallise.
Here I got the idea about advice that might be given by the utensils I use as a quilter… On the flight home I made the first notes and within weeks I had the advice from sixteen utensils.
Back home, whilst researching Ilan Shamir's Advice from Nature, she came across Advice from a Quilt. Gaining permission to reproduce the poem, Ingrid's quilt design was complete!
Interspersed between the sampler-style colour blocks are Ingrid's own poems, crafted with gentle humour and offering pointers to help quilters honour their own talents.
This is one of my favourite quilts – it shows so much of my creativity. It's strange to praise myself, but I am really proud of this quilt!

A Child’s Bliss
Quilt 2010 50 x 50 cm
"The atmosphere of the days before Christmas touches something deep in me, the memory of a blissful experience, more than 60 years ago. I was about four years old; it was Christmas’ Eve, December 24. Not until the evening did I get to see the Christmas tree, after waiting the whole day. Then the door opened and what I saw there was a room filled with light, so much lighter than the real light of the candles in the tree. A music box played a Christmas carol and this was mixed with the sound of little bells tinkling… I was a very happy child!"

Inspiration:
The blue hour is the period of twilight in the morning or evening, around the nautical stage when the sun is at a significant depth below the horizon and residual, indirect sunlight takes on a predominantly blue shade, which differs from the one visible during most of a clear day.
I experienced this blue hour in the morning before sunrise in the Austrian Alps. It is just magical and enchanting.

Covid Blues 87cm x 120cm by Melissa Gelder
"Striving to keep to a blue palette, an exploration of how colour changes with the warp and weft of Oakshott fabrics. It was June, Covid was fresh and lockdown was recent. Once quilted, it became my favourite".

Solar Wind 111 x 42 cm by Melissa Gelder
"Frightened by the changes to our environment, yet thinking of the summer to come. Craving working with hot colours, it was still deep winter and my heart was taking a holiday in the tropics. Still exploring warp and weft and the colour changes with these unique fabrics."
