Monika Huelsebusch

Hi from Germany!

"Patchwork and quilting became my passion in 2005. It all began with a picture of an historic Grandmothers Flower Garden quilt. And yes, I  finished it! This first quilt is still my bed quilt. During the years, of course all family members got their own quilts.

My first pack of Oakshott Fabrics Colourshott fat eighths with these bright colours and interaction of colour of the warp and weft threads was an eye opener for me. These shot cotton fabrics have bright colours with more depth in a wide colour range. I had to find a pattern where all colours could be used and waste only one little piece.

"I prefer to create simple and clear designs that show the beauty of the fabrics.

"During the last years I created a quilt for the Pantone colour of the year: 2017 Pantone colour of the year Greenery: Simple Stripes; 2018 Pantone colour of the year Purple: Purple Circle; 2019 Pantone colour of the year Living Coral: Coral Code; and 2020 Pantone colour of the year Classic Blue: Blue Glow (all shown below).

"In 2014 I got my longarm quilting machine and I love it! The quilting completes a quilt in the third dimension and adds an additional layer of pattern.

"Just for fun... Michael set me a challenge: so see what I could do with three colourways of a wide stripe silk. I love a challenge...!
